Objectives: Each student shall learn the basic concept of self-care and equip themselves to strengthen their own physical and emotional health. Each student shall understand and develop sound study and work habits. Each student shall have a thorough knowledge of the structure and function of the body as it relates to Massage and/or Skin Care theory and practice. Each Massage student shall demonstrate proficiency and confidence in the basic Massage techniques of effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, cross-fiber, percussion and joint movements used in Swedish Massage. Each Skin Care student will demonstrate proficiency in Micro-Dermabrasion, Facials, Waxing, Masks, Body Wraps and Peels. Each student shall be aware of the principles of Massage Therapy and/or Skin Care, knowing when to treat and when to refer. Each student will develop the ability to effectively, safely, successfully and responsibly practice the art and science of massage therapy and/or skin care. Each student shall be knowledgeable regarding business and communication skills. Each student shall be aware of the career opportunities
available and possess the knowledge to confidently manage a private

The campus is in a fast growing part of town with many career schools, medical offices and institutions of higher learning close by. The school offers 7 private therapy rooms for the Professional On-Site Clinics, 2 independent Massage Classrooms, 1 large Skin Care Classroom, 1 Multi-Use Classroom and administrative offices. The equipment used by Florida Academy of Massage & Skin Care is appropriate for professional training and consists of massage tables, massage chairs, bolsters, skeleton, hydrocollators, overhead projectors, video camera and monitor, televisions/VCR's, and medical charts depicting the various aspects of the human anatomy, as well as equipment for Micro-Dermabrasion, plus High Frequency and Galvanic machines as found in only the most prestigious and up-to-date spas, salons and medical offices. The size of classes are limited and labs are sometimes augmented
with an Instructor Assistant as needed. Small classes are
beneficial in ensuring personal attention while maximizing personal
growth potential. |
