Skin Care Facial Specialist
Course Descriptions Students are taught both the techniques and theories of various
Facial Treatments which are the core procedures a Skin Care/Facial
Specialist executes. Students are taught a variety of manual hand
techniques used in facial massage and toning of the face and
neck.
SC-102 Skin Peels, Masks and Back Facials (hours:11) Students are taught both the theory and techniques of skin
peels, which are defined as procedures for the removal of excess
dead skin cells by mechanical, manual or chemical processes. Both
the theory and application of various types of masks is taught. The
object of the mask is to restrict the pores, refine skin texture
and penetrate nutrients into the skin. Skin penetration may be
augmented by the use of galvanic or high frequency electrical
current.
SC-103 Superfluous Hair Removal (hours: 20) Students are taught the methods available for superfluous hair
removal as well as the actual techniques used. The benefits, as
well as the risks, of these procedures are explained.
SC-104 Nutrition, Skin Analysis, Client Consultation, Skin Cleansing (hours: 30) Students are taught the importance of diet and its effect on the skin. Skin analysis is performed under intense light and 5-diopter magnification to determine which products and services are appropriate for each client based on their skin type and condition. Students are taught how to effectively consult with a client, by both asking the correct questions and understanding the casual relationships of various skin conditions. Students are instructed on what products and application techniques are appropriate for proper skin cleansing; including deep pore cleansing.
SC-105 Anatomy and Physiology of the Face, Head and Neck (hours: 20) Students will be given basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the face, head and neck, as well as how the skin covering these sensitive areas grows and repairs itself. This knowledge is helpful in determining which steps and products are appropriate for various facial services and procedures.
SC-106 Chemistry and Analysis of Various Skin Care Products (hours: 13) Students will be given clear understanding of the effects of the major ingredients of skin care products on the skin. This training will enable the practitioner to determine the appropriateness of any product, for a specific application, based on the ingredient list stated on the product container.
SC-107 Disorders of the Skin and Miscellaneous Therapies for their Treatment (hours: 35) Students are instructed in the most common disorders of the skin which may be caused by a variety of factors ranging from improper nutrition, lack of hydration, etc. to sun damage, damage inflicted by smoking, etc., along with numerous therapies to mitigate, if not eliminate, these disorders.
**NEW** SC-108 Certification in Micro-Dermabrasion, Training in the usage
of Galvanic and High Frequency and Certification in
LED Students will be certified in Micro-Dermabrasion through both
the theory and hands-on use of the machine. Students will be
instructed in both the theory and use of galvanic and high
frequency electric current machines which are used for various
reasons i.e. as an aid in clearing up skin eruptions as well as to
aid in the penetration of various nutrients into the skin.
SC-109 Infection Control, Sanitation, Sterilization and HIV/AIDS (hours: 10) Students are taught the regulations regarding sanitation, disinfecting and sterilization as well as how to perform these mandatory processes. HIV/AIDS will be covered, in depth, including vital information on the transmission of the disease.
SC-110 Florida Law, Professionalism, Salesmanship and Business Training (hours: 10) Students are taught the requirements of the State of Florida, as
prescribed by the Department of Business and Professional
Regulation. The rules and regulations are presented in lecture and
open class discussion, so each student becomes familiar with the
laws and rules governing the field of Skin Care and Body Wrapping.
Students are prepared for the professional environment they will
encounter in the workplace. The importance of a consistently
polished appearance, pleasant manners and good communication skills
are emphasized as mandatory to their success throughout the
training program and in specific sessions with our Placement
Director.
SC-111 Student Clinic Practicum (hours: 40) Student Clinic requires students to carry out virtually all the duties that are generally performed in a private practice, from providing services and procedures on clients to scheduling appointments and housekeeping duties, all under the supervision of a Student Clinic Director in our on-site student clinic facility.
**NEW** SC-112 Body Wraps (hours: 12) Students are instructed in the theory of both techniques of body
wraps. The classic spa technique, used to detoxify the body and
hydrate the skin, the compression technique, an all-natural and
effective way to achieve inch reduction, detoxify the body, cleanse
the skin and leaves a rejuvenated, smooth and silky skin texture.
Students will receive a license as a “Licensed Body
Wrapper” in the State of Florida, upon graduation. Required Text
